چکیده

Shared access networks such as hybrid fiber/coaxial and passive optical networks have emerged as promising ways to reduce the cost of the transition to a broadband access infrastructure and provide a graceful upgrade path towards the photonization of the local loop. The MAC protocol as the only arbiter of the upstream bandwidth directly affects the Quality of Service (QoS) provided to each upstream traffic flow and must meet several constraints. Such constraints include the adequate speed of operation, flexibility to support efficiently the largest number of services and applications offering an adequate number of QoS classes, and independence of higher layers, protocols and future extensions to traffic management specifications. The implementation of a MAC mechanism targeting these goals and aligned to the emerging Differentiated Services Internet strategy is evaluated using computer simulation results in this paper. The benefits of the adopted prioritization scheme to provide and guarantee different QoS levels are

Using a multiple priority reservation MAC to support differentiated services over HFC systems

The successful commercial deployment of Hybrid Fibre/Coaxial (HFC) access networks in the residential market has so far been driven by demand for faster Internet access and the prospects of a host of new services based on real-time voice and video. To sustain their growth rates and compete with alternative approaches, such as ADSL, they must be enhanced with the capability to efficiently handle...

On the Performance Modelling and Optimisation of DOCSIS HFC Networks

The DOCSIS protocol defines the MAC and physical layer operations governing two-way transmission of voice, video and multimedia data over HFC cable networks, thus constituting a complex system with many interdependent parameters. This tutorial employs simulation and analytic methodologies for the performance modelling and optimisation of DOCSIS 1.1/2.0 HFC networks with particular focus on the ...

Real World Modeling and Nonlinear Control of an Electrohydraulic Driven Clutch

In this paper, a complete model of an electro hydraulic driven dry clutch along with its performance evaluation has elucidated. Through precision modeling, a complete nonlinear physical and full order sketch of clutch has drawn. Ultimate nonlinearities existent in the system prohibits it from being controlled by conventional linear control algorithms and to compensate the behavior of the sy...

A measurement-based approach for dynamic QoS adaptation in DiffServ networks

This paper presents a practical approach to managing multimedia traffic in DiffServ network, using network monitoring feedback and control. We exploit the flexibility of multimedia traffic and process network level parameters to adapt the traffic according to the current state of the network. The latter is determined based on reports sent by bandwidth monitors installed on each node of a DiffSe...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....
